Banana Oats and Natural Lighting

27 Aug

For breakfast this morning, I made some  maple brown sugar oatmeal, and then cut up a banana to put on top. It was a decent breakfast, nothing too special. I think it was missing nut butter, which I’ve had in my oats every time for  the past couple weeks :)  I’ve been using MaraNatha dark chocolate peanut butter on just about every thing! The only bad part is, I can’t find it ANYWHERE around here, and  I should have stocked up when I found it in Tennessee 😦

Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of experimenting with lighting, and other camera effects. Natural light is one I’ve been focusing on. I took these pictures outside, on my porch, to get the best lighting, and I think they turned out pretty well. My photography is still a major work in progress, but I’ve had a lot of fun playing around with it.

I’m off to go look for  a new tank top at Dick’s Sporting Goods. I have to find one I really like for tennis, and I have a gift card I’ve been holding onto since Christmas.

Happy Saturday!

Giveaway Win!

27 Aug

This is probably going to sound really funny, but I have been trying to win giveaways for months! I always enter, never really expecting to win; however, last week, I finally won! Meghann, from Meals & Miles, was giving away a Healthy Living Summit hoodie, and I wanted it so bad! I had really wanted to go to HLS, so having the hoodie was like having just a little piece of the event.

I love the bright color of the hoodie, (which is really hard to see in this picture), and it is EXTREMELY comfortable. And the coolest thing? It’s made from Bamboo, and is really environmentally friendly! It’s made by Five Bamboo, and after looking at a bunch of their products, I found that I really like a lot of their clothing!

This picture does NOT do the hoodie justice. I had just gotten home from tennis, and the first day of school, so I was in a bit of a whirlwind to say the least!

Long Time, No post

20 Aug

Whew! After quite a little hiatus here in the blog world, I’m back! Here’s a few things that happened over the break:

  • Went on a camping trip/ White water rafting trip
  • I had some more pool time with Sierra!
  • took several more Zumba classes 🙂
  • Went to Tennessee to the Wilderness Lodge/indoor water park!
  • Made some of Mama Pea’s Thai Veggie Burgers!

I’m really trying to have a lot of fun in these next two weeks, because school is coming up really quickly! Although I’m excited about it, I’m also dreading having to get back into a routine, that leaves me with very little time for relaxing. It’s okay though, I like to be busy too!

Something else that happened? Meet my new little friend!

I’ve been looking for this stuff at the local grocery stores, and the health food store, and even at Whole Foods. i finally found it at a Kroger in Tennessee. It is so delicious!  I had it for breakfast this morning mixed in with some apple cinnamon oat meal.

Tennis just started back officially, and we have our first match this week! 🙂

Summer Staples

5 Aug

During the summer, I have two forms of exercise that I do on a regular basis. Although I do change it up a bit sometimes, tennis and Zumba are my favorites.

I play tennis 2 or 3 times a week with my friends, and now tennis is starting up for my school’s team. I can’t wait for this season to start!

I do Zumba at a community center in the next town over from ours. I’ve been doing it for a little over a year, and I love it! It’s so much fun, you don’t even feel like you’re working out! My instructor is great, and doesn’t just do Zumba songs, she also  does songs that you hear on the radio, so you can sing along while you’re dancing. Ever since I started doing Zumba, I’ll hear a song on the radio and think “this would be so fun to do in Zumba!” haha.

The Story of the Magic Bullet

3 Aug

My love for the Magic Bullet began when I was about 9 years old. I would watch the infomercial for the Magic Bullet over  and over again. Its promises of salsa in minutes, as well as instant meals had me begging my parents relentlessly for the blender.  With the touch of a finger the blender could make anything! I would spend 20 minutes at a time giving my parents my best version of the commercial, trying to persuade them that our family NEEDED the Magic Bullet.

Although I’m not quite sure how we got it, (which is strange, since I was the one who wanted it so badly) we ended up getting the Magic Bullet at some point, and it is now a staple in my breakfast routine.

JulyFoods 047

My smoothie this morning consisted of

  • a frozen blend of peaches, strawberries, mango, and pineapple

JulyFoods 037

  • Yoplait Strawberry yogurt

JulyFoods 048

  • A little bit of milk, and a sprinkle of granola

I had thought about pouring it into a glass, but who wants to use a glass when you can just eat it straight out of the blender with a spoon? 😉

Giving Green a Try

2 Aug

As I mentioned in my post yesterday, today was the say I decided to try making a green smoothie. The “green” was some organic baby spinach. To be honest, I was very skeptical of the idea. Spinach? In a smoothie?  So I woke up this morning, got dressed to go workout, and headed into the kitchen to test it out.

Going in the smoothie was:

  • 1 frozen banana (if you don’t have a frozen banana bowl in your freezer, I highly suggest it. so easy!)

JulyFoods 030

  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries from my Nana’s garden

JulyFoods 031

  • 2 handfuls of spinachJulyFoods 032

  • 1 scoop of Whole Foods brand chocolate protein powder (because you need chocolate when trying anything new 🙂 )

JulyFoods 035

I added some water, and then blended it all together (along with some doubt and a touch of anxiousness).

JulyFoods 036The verdict? Well… it was GOOD! Okay, so my smoothie wasn’t really green,  but there was green IN the smoothie, and that’s what counts, right? ? Next time, I’ll add vanilla protein powder instead to retain some of the color.

Overall, a pretty good experience for my first try!
